I am just back from a weekend seminar with Tony Robbins in
the Excel Centre in London.
8,000 (yes eight thousand) people attended this 4 day event which was an
amazing experience and I learned a phenomenal amount.
One of the concepts he spoke about during the weekend was
something I reference quiet a bit with my Business Coaching clients and is
something I myself am committed to improving on into the future. This concept focuses
on the importance of who you interact
with, who your peers are and who you decide to role model.
As a self employed person it is so easy to believe that my
future is in my own hands, I will make things happen and I will get results.
This is in fact is not true. I personally will only be able to make limited
progress and achieve limited goals unless I open my self up to fact that I am
influenced by my peers and I can save a huge amount of time and energy and
getting far better results by finding a role model.
Tony Robbins has a
saying “People’s lives are a direct reflection of the expectations of their
peer group”. If you currently earn Eur30,000, you will probably find that most
of your friends are also earning around Eur30,000. If you remain in this peer
group, chances are this will not change.
If however you want to start earning Eur100,000, you might want to think
about finding new people to “hang out” with that are already earning
Eur100,000. They will hold you to a higher standard, they will show you how to
get the additional earnings more quickly and will not have the negative
associations around earning money that people who earn a lot less might have.
The same principle applies to all areas of your life. If your peers are
typically negative, chances are you will be negative too. If your peers are
healthy and exercise regularly, chances are you will too.
Take a look at who your peers are? Who are those people you
spend most time with socially and in business and who influences your
decisions? Find people that are doing things that you want to do and get to
know them, spend time with them and learn from them. This is a great way to
help you achieve your goals.
The other topic I want to share with you is the importance
of role models. There is the old cliché – why reinvent the wheel? Most self
employed people I know are reinventing the wheel all the time. They spend their
time coming up with innovative solutions to problems, new products and services
and new ways of doing business. This is all great and it what I have found
myself doing, but wouldn’t it be a lot easier if you took some time to figure
out what you really want then find someone who has what you want and then do
what they do. If you want a million euro business, find someone who has such a
business and ask them what they did. One of the main reasons I went to see Tony
Robbins was to learn from one of the greatest coaches in the world. He coaches
a select number of high profile clients at a cost of $1million / year. He has
coached Bill Clinton, Sylvestor Stallone, Andre Agasi and Tiger Woods so he is
obviously getting results. He would be one of my role models.
To summarise to fast track your business and get the results
you want, surround yourself with peers that will hold you to a higher standard
and find role models so you can do in 12 months that they took 10 years to do.
Until next time, stay healthy and stay safe.
