I was given a DVD called “The Secret” by a close relative who strongly recommended that I watch it. I must confess, it sat on the shelf above the TV for the past few weeks and I was only reminded of it when someone else mentioned it to me recently. I watched it last night and I was intrigued and excited. I am really looking forward to testing out its claims. The Secret is not any old secret but the secret to happiness, health, wealth and success. The reason it is called a secret is because down through the ages for thousands of years, people in power did not share it. Today, however with the great communication methods such as the internet and global distribution, the secret is being shared. You are probably wondering what this secret it. Well it is basically the “Law of attraction” which states and I am paraphrasing – whatever you have in your life, good or bad you have attracted these to you. This is based on the fact that at the deepest subatomic level the entire universe including humans and everything on planet earth comes from energy. Thoughts have been shown scientifically to have a frequency and therefore have energy. The thoughts we have impact on who we are and how our lives unfold. Top athletes have known this for years. They will rehearse the perfect race or the perfect match in their minds over and over before ever going into competition. They do this because they know the mind can not distinguish between whether or not you are actually putting the physical effort in or not. If we continuously have thoughts about not being able to pay the bills, we will continue not to be able to pay the bills. If we consistently worry about how bad our health is, we will never get healthy because based on the law of attraction, by focusing on not being able to pay the bills, we are attracting into our lives more situations that prevent us from getting what we really want such as financial security. I have seen this law work in very simple and indeed profound ways in my own life. I joke that I can almost always find a car space outside a restaurant when I want to and invariably, I pull up to the restaurant and there is a car space. I also set goals for myself, one memorable goal for me was to own a RED MGF sports car. I got a picture of this car and stuck it up on my bedroom wall at home. 12 months later I was in Ennis and saw the car of my dreams and I knew instantly that it was for me. That was a great car. How do you put “The Secret” into practise? There are 3 steps. - Ask: Ask for what it is you want. Get a picture of it or if it is money write a cheque for that amount and put it somewhere you can see it, if you want a certain waist size, buy a pair of trousers or skirt in that size and put it somewhere you can see it regularly. If it is a goal to expand your business, get a picture of the new premises you want and keep it somewhere you can see it.
- Believe: Believe you can get what you are looking for. You do not have to worry about how you are going to get it; just believe that you can have it. One thing to emphasis here though is that you need to have positive feelings around your goal. If you just tell yourself on an intellectual level that you believe, that carries no emotion and the law of attraction requires that your thoughts which are manifested through your feelings are what matters.
- Receive: Start acting as if you already have what you want. Do what top athletes do, visualise the situation. Visualise yourself fitting into that 34” trousers or opening the door to your new premises. Go for a test drive in that car. View the premises you want to occupy or start acting as if you already have that waist line you are looking for.
You can get more information on “The Secret” on the website www.thesecret.tv where you have the option to buy the DVD and watch a short trailer of the feature length movie. I am going to give it a go over the next while and see if it works. If you decide to do the same, have some fun with it. It will definitely not work if you perceive it as a chore. The suggestion on the DVD is to make putting the law of attraction into practise a habit. Good luck and if you do give it a go, I would love to hear how you get on with it.
